Into the Land of Deep Darkness He Comes

March 17, 2014

Lent Day 12, Tuesday, March 18

The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone.

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulders, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:2, 6

Isaiah 8 ends with the Israelites in the gloom of anguish and thrust into deep darkness. Into this despair, God breaks in with the light of the Messiah, Jesus Christ.

Jesus is our great freedom fighter, our Prince of Peace, breaking our oppression and burden with his great light.

Ponder: Think of the joy and relief you’ve experienced when light broke through your darkness. Where is your "gloom of anguish" today? Look for the light of Christ to shine through your darkness.

Praise: A great light will shine on those who dwell in a land of deep darkness.
