The True Guiding Light

March 18, 2014

Lent Day 13, Wednesday, March 19

And I will lead the blind in a way that they do not know,
in paths that they have not known I will guide them.
I will turn the darkness before them into light, the rough places into level ground.
These are the things I do,
and I do not forsake them. They are turned back and utterly put to shame,
 who trust in carved idols,
who say to metal images,
“You are our gods.” Isaiah 42:16-17

At times your situation is dire. You blindly follow unknown paths and stumble in the dark. That’s when you’ll make anything into a “god” if it will numb the fear and pain. But God will not compete with idols. Look what God promises:  He will lead, guide, turn darkness into light, and make rough places into level ground. Hang onto the real God and his real promises in your real pain.

Ponder: Where have you trusted in anything other than God (an idol) to relieve your dark situation?

Praise: God will not forsake you. He will turn the darkness before you into light.
