Walking Light and Clean

April 15, 2014

Lent Day 37, Wednesday, April 16

This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:5-9

God is light. Pure. Piercing. Clear. In him there is no darkness, no deception. Do not lie to yourself. You know when you are walking in his light and when you are sliding toward darkness. When you slip, confess your sin. He will forgive you because he is faithful to his covenant to us as his people and just to His Son whose blood has paid the price for our sins.

Ponder: Are you deceiving yourself or afraid God will find out something about you? Take comfort. God already knows you, and that you will sin, and he promises to forgive you when you confess your sins.

Praise:  God is light. As we confess our sin, he forgives us. The blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sin.
