When We Get a Glimmer of His Glory

March 16, 2014

Lent Day 11, Monday, March 17

Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness,
who put bitter for sweet
and sweet for bitter! Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes,
and shrewd in their own sight! Isaiah 5:20-21

Above him stood the seraphim. Each had six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. And one called to another and said:

“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts;
the whole earth is full of his glory!”

And the foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of him who called, and the house was filled with smoke. And I said:

“Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts!”

Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a burning coal that he had taken with tongs from the altar. And he touched my mouth and said:

Behold, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away, and your sin atoned for.”

Isaiah 6:2-7

Our world doesn’t even know it is lost, calling darkness light and light darkness. We are wise in our own eyes until we get a glimmer of God’s holiness, then we cry, “Woe is me! I am lost!” Through Christ’s sacrifice, our guilt is taken away and our sin is atoned for. So we can fully worship God’s holiness and glory.

Ponder: Where are you mixing up light and darkness? Where have you been wise in your own eyes? Where have you said, “Woe is me!” as you have had a glimpse of the holiness of the Lord?

Praise: Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory. In Jesus Christ, behold, your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for. We will live in true light.
